I have a bass amp I’d like to hook up to my stereo, but I’m told it might not help much if the stereo itself can’t take advantage of it because of its integrated amp limitations (or something like that).

The problem you have is getting just a bass signal, not the whole frequency range. You need a cross-over to seperate the lows from the mids and highs so you can get the low end boost you need. If you just hook the amp up, then you will just be making everything louder. It would help the low end a little being that it’s a bass amp, but the effect you’re looking for won’t happen like you probably want. As far as any integrated amp limitations, sounds like someone’s trying to sound like they know a little more than they really do… you can use the sterio’s signal and do whatever you want to it’s output if you buy the right equiptment.

I have two-1000watt amps, two-15 inch subwoofers and a multi-input equalizer that I’d like to keep for my home stereo system. How would I go about wiring all the components to work off of a AC input or how would I get a DC input working at home without it having to be a car battery? The wiring for a typical car installation I’m familiar with but how would I wire this for power without the car or the battery’s current?

NO you just don’t do this. Bad sound, high cost, and the stupid factor all come to mind.

I have an old cj5 with no stereo at all. I just want to be able to hear something when I am riding down the road. It needs to be fairly weather proof as I don’t have a solid top and either removable or theft proof. I don’t want anything fancy cuz basically I don’t want it stolen and if you’ve ever ridin in a jeep you hear more of the wind and the road than anything.
Anyone got any suggestions.

Go to a site such as www.sonicelectronix.com and look under their marine audio equipment if you’re really concerned about rain. Lot of stuff there designed to handle the water. As for the wind noise, if you use a soundbar mounted to the top rollbar that helps by pointing the speaker at your head. You can get roll bar pods from any of the normal major Jeep catalogs such as quadratec.com or 4wd.com
Jeeps require a little ingenuity for things like this. I mounted a subwoofer in a box I built into my rear seat frame. Its out of sight and doesn’t see much water down there.

I want bass, but I don’t want it to overpower. I want just enough for the music in the car to sound good when its up, bass where the car doesnt shake, and the music is still clear. Not trying to break the bank, just need good quality, low priced in-dash stereo, amps & subwoofers.

Based on your description, you have alot of choices! The in-dash units that are well-known name brands like Sony, Pioneer, JVC, etc. cost $80~$100 may not read USB or Memory cards, but they play cds and radio very well and can be easily installed with adapters if needed. Most of the time your factory speakers from the car you described are good enough to handle the sound, but if you do notice fuzziness it may be time to upgrade those, too. Direct upgraded replacements can be had at around $50~$80 per pair depending on size and brand. Sub and amp: I would recommend a pair of 10" subs in a box you can make from MDF with basic carpentry skills. If you measure the room you have in the trunk (normal place for subs) you can design a sealed sub box using the figures found on the package your subs come in. It says on the box how many cubic inches your subs want for sealed and ported enclosures. Cubic inches = width x height x depth. You can even make your sub box to where you can mount your amp to it. Good cheap subs can be $50~$100 each, and the amps that will sufficiently drive them and do what you described run about $120~$150. Just pick name brands you can trust, you cannot go wrong. Oh, and be sure to ground the amp to the car’s body in the trunk. that is important.

It is probably important to note that I have no building skills or time to build something. Also, we don’t want to run it from inside the house for several reasons.

You need to get a stereo system meant to be ran and left outside.
