I recently purchased 2 Alpine 10 in E series subwoofers that are wired independently and a enclosed box the are 220watts @ 4 ohms each. I aslo purchasec a 450watt Alpine mono channel amp that has 600W peak output @ 4 ohms, bridged, 400W RMS (continuous) x 1 @ 2 ohms, 220W RMS (continuous) x 1 @ 4 ohms . I have heard to run the subwoofers in paralell, which to my understanding is run the positive of one sub to the positive of the othe and the same for the negatives, then run from that sub to the speaker out on the amp. Is this correct or is there a better method? Thanks for your help!
Yes you can run them in parallel. Just to avoid confusion, you want the positive of both speakers to hook up to the positive of the amplifier and the same for the negative. You don’t have to run from one speaker to the other but that will work as well.
I prefer to use equal lengths of wires for each speaker rather than jumping from one speaker to the next. Make sure to use at least 12 guage wire for best performance. Do Not under any circumstance wire in any type of resistor as was suggested.
As you will be running your amp down to 2 ohms, you will want to make sure your charging system is working properly, the amp is properly grounded, and mounted as such to allow proper cooling. All of these factors will determine the performance of your system. If you have any troubles, ask another question.
Cheers.
Got here: 2 12" Audiobahn AW1251SE subs, dual-coil, 4ohms/coil. Don’t have an amplifier yet, first need to know the answer. Want to power it with 1,2, or 4 ohm mono amp.
Each sub by itself can be connected in series for 8ohms or parallel for 2ohms load. However, only one coil on the subwoofer can also be connected, leaving another coil empty. For both subwoofers, when connected, total load will be: 1 ohm if wired parallel on sub and parallel between subs; 4ohms if wired serial on each sub and parallel between subs; 2 ohms if use only 1 coil on each sub and connect both of them in parallel. Wiring subs in serial is not recommended, so other options are out of question. Which of these ways is the best one to wire and why? I’m looking for the balance between loudness and quality, however, given choice, would choose slightly towards loudness.
Thanks for everybody’s time and special thanks to those who answer the question.

Thanks, everybody for your effort. Btw – I’ve been running subwoofer on a single coil for about a year, and it didn’t blow. Whether should I have done that – that’s another question. Got my answer – 1ohm it is, just as I was going to.
Firstly, you should not begin wiring the Subwoofers until you are absolutely certain what OHM the amplifier will be stable at.
Some amplifiers are stable at 1 ohm and others have stability issues at 2 or 4 ohms when you bridge woofers.
Get the amplifier BEFORE YOU DO THE WIRING, OR YOU MAY HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.
You can see WIRING POSSIBILITIES for your DUAL VOICE COIL subwoofers here:
http://www.cardomain.com/shop/wooferwizard.pl?num_of_subs=1&impedance_of_subs=dual%204%20ohms
click that link and you will be taken to a page that will show you simple steps for connecting 1 or more of your Audiobahn models to your amplifier.
If you are aiming to achieve the best loudness and quality, I RECOMMEND that you wire the subs to the lowest OHM rating provided by your amplifier.
If the Amplifier is 1 Ohm stable…wire them that way. The lowest resistance in my experience has allways gotten me the best sound quality.
Don’t worry about the difference in quality between 2OHMS and 1 OHM. The total harmonic distortion, or THD, of a signal is almost neglideagble in quality amplifiers like Rockford Fosgates, Audiobahns and Kickers.
THD is the amount of undesirable harmonics present in an output audio signal expressed as a precentage. The lower the percentage the better. In most quality amps like the Rockford Fosgate T1000Bd, the THD is is around 0.04.
The human ear won’t be able to notice the difference in fact.
Just be certain you wire up BOTH voice coils when you do the installation. Dual Voice coils are required to move the heavy, massive rubber boot as efficiently as possible.
Also keep in mind also that for this much power, you will want to have a CAPACITOR and the apropriate guage wire for whatever AMp you choose – I recommend a 2 Farad cap. If you want the setup to look hot, get a cap that has an LCD voltmeter on it.
Rockford Fosgate makes one for just under $175.

I have two 1400 watt subwoofers and was wondering how menny watt amplifier i should get. I dont know if i should get a two channel 1400 watt amp or a two channel 2400 watt amp.
assuming the 1400 watt is RMS not MAX and they are 4ohm subs u could either get a mono amp which runs 2800rms at 2ohms or a 2 channel amp that runs 1400rms x 2.
try to to match the rms as best as you can.

I am looking to buy some decent subwoofers for my Ford Explorer 2002. I have been looking around and am now just very confused. Websites are saying that I need an "amp", so what is an "amp" and what are some good choices. Also if you could tell me how to find a good subwoofer (RMS, quality, and etc.) that would be great! Thanks In Advance!
The "amp" (Amplifier) is what makes the subwoofer work. No speaker can play without one. Cd players have them built in, that’s how we power speakers off of them. Being as you drive an suv, you have the potential for really loud bass. My first system in my jeep was 2 memphis power reference 12s in a sealed box. That set-up will run you about 250-300 bucks. And an amp for them will run you about 150-300. It all depends on how much you wanna spend. If you do your research, you can find some good stuff online for really cheap. Look into memphis audio, rockford fosgate, alpine, soundstream, power acoustik(budget brand),.
If i want to use a box that holds 2 subwoofers what else is required rather than if you were using just one? Would 1 wiring kit do it? Is their a special amp for 2 subs?
Some things to know http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com
I am looking for subs for my car perferably 12’s and I don’t have a huge budget. I was wondering on the cheaper subwoofers does anyone know about them like plye, legacy and subs in the lower rang. Nothing like JL or kicker. Also I was wondering if a cheap amp at walmart might work? I want some bass to shake the car a little but don’t want extreme bass. I want it to sound nice not to just shake the car.
most people want cheap car audio. which is fine. the problem is, that after they get there stuff, there disapointed, and thought it would be better then it really is. so having said that here is my advise to you.
first off, if you want a little bass, just so the lows in the car sound good, then get a 10". they generally sound better then 12s but are not as loud. there also cheaper. next is try to get a sub with a low rms. that way you dont need to get a big expensive amp. to get a sub with a limited budget, that doesnt sound like a*s, you need to resort to the internet. check out sites like www.woofersect.com. i know they have MB Quart woofers on sale right now. i thin there 70% off. also dont be afraid to buy a new sub off ebay. infact i recomend you buy a Boston Acoustics G2, a 10" or 12" is up to you, off ebay. they go for about $100. trust me, its worth a little extra money for it. you will not find a better sounding sub for less money. i can almost promise you that.
as far as amps, that is anther thing you really dont want to get too cheap on. cheap amps scare me. go with a good brand. this is where ebay comes into play. you can get amps for pretty cheap. take this JBL amp for example. hella cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-BP300-1-BP-300-1-Car-Audio-Amplifier-4-GA-wires_W0QQitemZ200040039789QQihZ010QQcategoryZ18797QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
good deals are out there. i’ll put a link to the Boston sub on the bottom where i list my sources. save up a little money, and get stuff that doesnt suck. otherwise you will be unhappy and spend more and more money on a system. which over time, can be tons of money.
