What to Know About Buying and Installing Subwoofers?
July 82010
I am looking to buy some decent subwoofers for my Ford Explorer 2002. I have been looking around and am now just very confused. Websites are saying that I need an "amp", so what is an "amp" and what are some good choices. Also if you could tell me how to find a good subwoofer (RMS, quality, and etc.) that would be great! Thanks In Advance!
The "amp" (Amplifier) is what makes the subwoofer work. No speaker can play without one. Cd players have them built in, that’s how we power speakers off of them. Being as you drive an suv, you have the potential for really loud bass. My first system in my jeep was 2 memphis power reference 12s in a sealed box. That set-up will run you about 250-300 bucks. And an amp for them will run you about 150-300. It all depends on how much you wanna spend. If you do your research, you can find some good stuff online for really cheap. Look into memphis audio, rockford fosgate, alpine, soundstream, power acoustik(budget brand),.

an amp is a sound amplifier…it also gives more power and "boom" to the subwoofer. depending on how much volume, power, and bass you want, for more power, get a bigger amp. A good brand in my opinion is pioneer and alpine…they are a trustworthy brand that has been around for a while and have great quality. To find a good subwoofer….if you want a deep base but less kick get a 10 inch….if you want something to give you a good kick in the back, go with a bigger 12 inch….i like MTX and infiniti as far as brand. Go to a stereo shop and tell someone exactly what it is your looking for and they can definetly help you out.
